Immediate dentures are designed or constructed to be inserted immediately the day of your tooth extraction. There are two types of immediate dentures, partial and complete immediate dentures. Partial immediate dentures are made prior your tooth extraction when one or more teeth need to be removed. Complete immediate dentures are made prior your full teeth extractions.
Once your teeth are extracted, your dentist inserts the immediate dentures. The benefit of immediate dentures is that it acts like a bandage and patients are not without teeth during the healing period, which can take up to 6 months and you may need temporary reline during that period. After 6 months, your bones and gums will dramatically shrink and your immediate dentures will be losing on you, therefore you will need a permanent reline for a proper fit.
